Lapwings - Lapwing tracks

Lulu

Sex: female

Transmitter: 0B11

Monitored from: 13.5.2024, Horní Ředice

Year 2024: During the 2024 breeding season, she was captured on a nest in a field between Horní Ředice and Rovensko. She successfully hatched chicks, which she led to a wetland in a neighboring field, where she was joined by another lapwing, Kikina, who also brought her chicks there. Since July, she has been roaming between Horní Ředice and Chrudim.

On October 17, she left the Czech Republic and started her migration. She crossed Germany in a very short time. She then made several multi-day stops near Troyes and Le Mans. She spent all of November and December even further south, near Nantes.

Year 2025: In January 2025, Lulu moved from the Nantes area to the city of Angers, where she stayed until February. She was observed in a large flock during the January expedition to check on the lapwings.

She began her journey back on 5.3. She shortly stopped in Belgium between 8. and 10.3. and then flew over Germany without further stops. On 12.3., she arrived back in the Czech Republic, once again in the Pardubice region, near Horní and Dolní Ředice.

At the beginning of April, she began her first nesting attempt, but this ended unsuccessfully, probably due to night predation. At the end of April, she nested again, and this time successfully hatched chicks. However, it seems that none of the chicks reached fledging.

She departed for her wintering grounds during the second, autumn migration wave on 23.9. and reached France as early as 25.9. She is spending the winter in a familiar area near Angers.
